Who is San Gennaro really? And how has he managed for centuries to unite believers and non-believers in a cult that far exceeds the boundaries of religion itself? From these questions emerges "'O sang. Il miracolo di San Gennaro", a journey into the heart of Naples that explores the deep bond between the saint and a community that continues to recognize itself in the mystery of the ampoule. Between sacred and profane, reality and imagination, the film offers a portrait of a living, layered Naples in constant transformation. It is a choral story in which different stories and characters intertwine like underground threads crossing the city, with unprecedented access to the “backstage” of a miracle that year after year becomes anticipation and spectacle, amid irony, wisdom, and memories of an ancient Naples that continues to survive in the present.
The invisible thread that unites all the stories is the ampoule of San Gennaro and the prodigy that may not happen: for this reason everything changes, pulses, and renews itself without pause, year after year. The result is a story that goes far beyond the boundaries of traditional documentary filmmaking, blending different registers and languages into an open, sensory form.
